Sajee Thomas - VP India, CES, Operations:
Dear 22-Year-Old Me.
Here's what I wish you'd know as you take your first few steps into the real world, unsure, a little nervous, but full of potential.
Start by figuring out what you’re good at. Not what sounds good, not what impresses people but what comes naturally to you. Don’t waste time being a fish trying to climb a tree. It makes life a lot easier when your job doesn't feel like you’re constantly swimming upstream.
Once you find your path, stay with it. Be patient. Building a career takes time. Jumping jobs at short intervals for a slightly better title or salary might feel good in the short run, but 10 years later you’ll wonder what you learned. Focus on learning, not just moving.
Also — seek mentors-actively and wisely. They don't have to be formal or declared; some of the best lessons will come from simply observing how someone leads, makes decisions or handles challenges.
Lastly, don’t rush your decisions. Not everything needs an answer right now. Think it through. Take a beat. Most of the time, slowing down leads to better calls.
That's it. You'll figure it out. Just don’t be in a hurry to skip the parts that matter.
Cheers.
Sajee Thomas
PS: It's been surprisingly gratifying to pause and look back — a reminder of how far we've come and how much there still is to explore. The road ahead feels just as exciting, maybe even more.
