Meet Our Recruiters: Britannia Gibson

Name: Britannia Gibson

Designation: Recruiter – HGS Jamaica

  1. Please tell us about yourself and your experience so far as a recruiter

Over the past years, I’ve gained extensive experience as a recruiter and during that time I’ve built up solid experience in sourcing talent, screening candidates, and managing the full hiring process. I really enjoy connecting people to roles where both the candidate and the company benefit, not just finding “a job,” but the right job.

One of the highlights of my recruiting career has been helping candidates grow professionally; especially those who might not have had a foot in the door before. Seeing someone I placed succeed and develop on the job is incredibly rewarding.

  2. What are some must-have qualities you look for in candidates applying to HGS?

When assessing candidates, I look for a mix of qualities that allow them to do their best in a demanding, customer focused setting. Strong communication skills are essential; being able to speak clearly, listen actively, and show empathy goes a long way. I also look for a customer centric mindset, where candidates demonstrate patience, a solution-oriented approach, and a genuine commitment to helping others. Reliability and professionalism are equally important, from showing up on time to carrying themselves in a respectful and mature manner. And because things can change quickly, adaptability is key. Those who are open to feedback, willing to learn, and comfortable adjusting to new situations usually excel. When candidates carry these qualities, it truly makes a noticeable difference in how well they perform.

  3. What is a question you never miss asking?

A question I never miss asking is, “Can you describe a situation where you had to make a difficult decision that tested your integrity, and how you handled it?”

This helps me understand how a candidate approaches ethical challenges, whether they can uphold honesty and professionalism under pressure, and if their values align with the company’s standards.

  4. What would be your pro tip for applicants?

My pro tip is to be yourself and communicate clearly. Show who you are, highlight what you’re good at, and don’t be afraid to share real experiences; they often tell us more about you than a rehearsed answer ever could. It’s also important to remain professional, because first impressions truly last. I understand it’s natural to feel nervous, but sometimes those nerves can get in the way of a great opportunity, so take a moment to breathe and prepare.

Since most of our interviews are held virtually, make sure you treat it just like a face-to-face interview. Come prepared, dress appropriately, and present yourself professionally. Bring engagement, positive energy...... because energy truly speaks volume, especially in this line of work. You’ll be interacting with customers daily, and while they may not see you, they can absolutely hear your tone.

A bonus pro tip: When an interviewer says, “Tell me about yourself,” this is your moment to shine. Focus on your professional background, relevant work experience, and the strengths that make you a great fit for the role. You can also highlight key achievements, what motivates you, and what you’re looking for in your next opportunity. Keep it clear, confident, and aligned with the job you’re applying for.

  5. What aspect of the HGS culture do you share with your candidates?

When speaking with candidates, I emphasize that one of the key aspects of HGS culture is its focus on people and growth. I explain that HGS values teamwork, open communication, and a supportive, engaging environment where employees can thrive and continue to develop their skills.
